President's Message

Hello, Ladies!

Hasn’t it been a fabulous fall!  The trees are just now reaching their peak of color and the weather is warm and sunny.  It seems very strange for November, but I know that I am not going to complain!!!!

It may feel more like late September than the month before Christmas, but our activities don’t:  we have many things happening before the end of this year.  Tuesday, November 8, is our traditional Election Day Bake Sale (and Thanksgiving Basket raffle) at the municipal building.  Don’t forget to drop off your goodies in the morning, and please give Kathie Strait a call if you could spend an hour or two working the sale.  While you are there, pick up a ticket or seven for the basket- it is very nice!

And speaking of fund raisers, the Avon orders must be called or e-mailed to Barb by November 10 in order that we get the items in early December.  I know that I will be ordering a gift or two, and a few special thing just for me……..

The county Prayer Breakfast is to be held at the Holiday Inn East on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at 9:00 a.m.   Last year’s breakfast was very inspiring.  Marlene did a great job and it sounds like this year’s meeting will be just as wonderful.  If you would like to attend (and I do recommend it), please call Marlene by November 10 to make your reservation.   The cost is $13, and you can pay Peg at the November 15, 2005 meeting.

Our meeting should be a lot of fun: the traditional holiday “brown bag” auction and white elephant sale.  Please bring one new holiday themed item to be auctioned off, and any gently used holiday “white elephant” merchandise you may have for sale.  Mark a price on the white elephant donation, and remember that there will be a $5 cap on the bidding for the auction items.    I am hoping to donate the proceeds from the evening to the White Oak Safe Haven Shelter.

Other news:  The Erie Woman’s Club will be holding their annual holiday house tour on November 19 and 20.  This year only the club house will be on display, but it sounds like the decorators are going all out:  “We have one local merchant who is going to even bring all the furniture to decorate his room.” (M. Heck, President of the club).  The tour times are abbreviated as well this year, 1-3 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday and the cost is $8.00 in advance and $10 on the day of the show.  Last year Kathie, Trudi and I took the tour.  It was a lot of fun and I believe that it should be again this year.   (I even won a decorated tree!.)  I am hoping that this year more clubwomen will be able to go.  We can set up a caravan for Sunday morning, and perhaps check out a few other Erie sights while we are there…..

Don’t forget the board meeting on November 22.  We would love to see you there!  Since this will be our last meeting of the year, perhaps we will move the location to Panera.  A coffee or hot chocolate would go great with discussing our Reciprocity December meeting.   And don’t forget the December 13 Covered Dish Dinner- I believe that the Woodland Hills Chamber Singers will be our entertainment- and they are always so enjoyable.  Think about what dish you will be bringing- a sign-up sheet will be passed out at the November meeting,

Finally, I wanted to let you know that we are now on the web!  Check out centuryclubwilkins.tripod.com  and let me know what you think.  I am hoping that we can put the newsletter on-line, and add pertinent and current information as well.  Right now I am looking for recent photographs of our club activities- if you have any, please e-mail them to me or bring them to the November meeting.  I will scan them then return them to you.

Wow, I’ve had a lot of things to discuss.  I hope that you will have time to enjoy the beauty of November- the warmth of our friends, the anticipation of the holidays, the love of our families and a feast that celebrates our blessings…..

Think crisp mornings and cranberry sauce!

This month we'll be taking a monetary donation for the Food Pantry to help them supply gift certificates for Thanksgiving.
The donation you brought last month for Woman'sPlace were very much appreciated.  If you could check over the list of items in last month's newsy, maybe you'll come accross something you could contribute this month.
Thank you for your very enthusiastic support of these two very needy charities.
Don't forget to call me by Nov. 10 with your reservation for the Prayer Breakfast.  I need a headcount.  You can pay Peg at the meeting.
Have a very Happy Thanksgiving with your family and friends.

We did a good job for UNICEF.  Thank you for your contribution of $31 which will be doubled by the Kimberly Clark Corp.  We collected $25 at Wilkins Senior Citizens which will be added to our donation to the total of $56.  I will use $19 from International Affairs Budget making our total $&5 to be matched for a total of $150.  Thank you to both groups for this contribution.  I also mailed a box to Operation Smile with pencils, pens, hotel soaps and shampoos, toothbrushes for children, small toys, coloring books, crayons, batteries and small stuffed animals.  Thank you to all who contributed.

I hope you all enjoyed last month's program.  Well, this month I want you to put on your creative hats and bring a brown bag item with a Christmas theme to the meeting.  Give your gift a value on the bottom.  NO more than $5.00.  Give us a few well chosen hints on a 3x5 card and we'll see who has the most creative bag.

I think we may be able to talk Sylvia Martinelli and Barb Mitchell into auctioning the bags and we'll go home with something new for the holidays.
